Before a department purchases, uses, and stores tax free alcohol, they must have a designated department alcohol custodian on file. To obtain authorization to purchase and use tax-free ethyl alcohol, the department chair should submit a written request to the Central Storehouse stating the monthly requirement and the intended use, designating a department custodian(s), and including a sample signature of the designated custodian(s).
The Central Storehouse will notify the department in writing of its authorization to purchase ethyl alcohol.
To add or delete designated custodians, the department should contact Materiel Management at (530) 754-1361 to request a copy of the Tax Free Alcohol Custodians form. This form also requires the signature approval of the department chair.The alcohol custodian is responsible for keeping a record of receipts and disbursements on the Alcohol Stock Control Custodian's Inventory Records form.
Note: As of October 2008, Supply Express and Central Storehouse changed the unit of issue on 100% 200 Proof Tax-Free Ethyl Alcohol to Pint, in order to allow for purchases of smaller amounts by department alcohol custodians. This item, catalog # 43196-115, was previously available in boxes of 24 pint bottles (3 gallons). This item can now be purchased in pint increments.
